Are you planning on a staycation this summer?

Many of us do, sometimes because of budgetary constraints when we can’t afford a vacation away, but also because many of us simply can’t be bothered with the hassle of packing, waiting for delayed flights, and dealing with the hordes of tourists that do nothing but get in the way of our supposed relaxation time.

Of course, if you are staying at home, you can do more with your time than sitting in your pj’s catching up with your Netflix boxsets or browsing wistfully through your best friend’s vacation pics on Facebook. To ensure you make the most of your staycation, consider adding one or more of the following activities to your itinerary.

Give your home a makeover

You probably don’t get a lot of time during the year to focus on your house, especially if you’re busy with work and family activities. Therefore, why not use the summer months to do something to your home? If there are any repairs that need doing, sort them out before the winter months take their toll. If you want to renovate your home in any way, perhaps with something that will enhance your summer – a new conservatory, a summer house, landscaping your garden – then do so. And to up your relaxation time, you might want to add some new seasonal furniture too. You can do this cheaply when visiting quality discount stores such as this one; We appreciate rolling your sleeves up to work on your house isn’t exactly the epitome of summer r & r, but you will experience the benefits afterward.

Throw a summer garden party

Garden parties are a lot of fun, so if you do have an outside area, consider putting something together for your friends, family members, and neighbors and become the social hub of the season. Of course, if you don’t have a garden, you might want to buddy up with a friend who does and plan something together, or you might even throw a party at the beach or any other piece of free land near you.

You might need to make a few purchases, such as a dining set and an outside stove, as well as any themed decorations if you are looking to be creative. You will need foods and drinks for your guests too, so be sure to make a note of their dietary requirements, and treat them to our summer cocktail idea at Then think about ways to entertain your party guests, so they don’t get bored and go home early. So, you might plan a schedule that includes music, dance, and even a few party games, for example.

Other ways to spend your staycation

There are loads of things you could be doing this summer. Get out and about, perhaps by visiting local beaches and parks, and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while engaging in a little exercise. Check your local newspaper for any activities near you too, such as summer festivals, music nights, and other seasonal events. Go and see a movie or two, and perhaps visit a restaurant you have never tried before so you don’t have to cook at home. Do these things alone, or with family and friends, adding them to your itinerary so you can really make the most of your summer staycation.
