Gavin is having an endoscopy and colonoscopy at 7:30 AM today. We have to be at the hospital at 5 AM, which means we have to leave at around 4:30. I haven’t slept. I’m going to look like Hell at the hospital.
Gavin was supposed to have this done about a month ago but we ran into a few snags. The anesthesiologist wanted him to have an evaluation by a cardiologist because there is a chance he could have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Then we ran into issues because although he is chronologically 18 years-old, mentally he’s maybe 6 years old so there’s no way he could sign off on medical procedures and at the time we didn’t have any legal ability to make decisions for him. Now it’s all changed and the snags are tied up.
He had his evaluation by the cardiologist and everything turned out good to go and approved for the procedures. We also learned that because I have been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome I should also be evaluated by a cardiologist. Just what I need another specialist to add to the list, but this post isn’t about me; it’s about Gavin.
Then Rob got a medical power of attorney so we can make medical decisions just as if he were a minor again. So we are covered on that front.
Gavin did his prep today without a single complaint. Not about going through the prep. Not about the fact that Rob and I had to eat dinner and he wanted to hang out with us at the time. We wound up eating in front of him and he didn’t complain once. He’s such a trooper.
Now, all that’s left is to go to the hospital and get this done and over with.
