The things we do every day really do affect us and our health. That might seem like a no brainer to you, but seemingly normal and harmless things we do can even affect us in a negative way if we’re not careful. If you want to know if there are things you’ve been doing every day to damage your health, read on. You might feel prompted to make a few changes!
Sitting Down For Hours
Sitting down for hours every day isn’t something that many people have control over. If you have a sedentary job, there isn’t a lot you can do. However, you should make an effort to walk around more. Studies have shown that people who sit for 6 hours a day or more live shorter lives than those who sit 3 hours a day and less. If you’re always sitting, you have more of a chance of suffering from both physical and mental health issues. Firms like Hasner Law deal with people who have sustained neck and back injuries, much like those you can get from sitting too often. If you sit down working for most of the day, here’s a few things you can do:
- Invest in a stand up desk, or a desk that you can altar from sitting to standing. Alternating will be a big help, and standing while you work can actually be great for your productivity.
- Take a short walk every hour, even if it’s just to get a glass of water or grab something from somebody else. Make a conscious effort to get up and walk.
- Get a fitness tracker and set step goals so you have more of an incentive to move.
Eating Lunch At Your Desk
Eating lunch at your desk is a waste of time. Not only are you not getting a much needed break from your job, you could also be eating nasty bacteria. Scientists who swabbed office desks found 21,000 germs per square inch, and 25,000 on a phone. Toilet seats don’t even contain that much bacteria! Getting away from your desk to eat lunch will make you more productive when you come back, and it’s far healthier for you. If you could go out for a walk to find a spot to get your lunch that helps you to get more steps in too!
Choosing A Salad
If you choose a salad from the salad bar and think you’re being super healthy, think again. Falafels, pasta, and potatoes may seem like healthy choices, but they can actually be super calorific. Not only does this mean they can be a cause for weight gain, they can be smothered in unhealthy sauces, and lots of oil. A salad isn’t always better than the ‘naughtier’ option.
Wearing Tight Clothes
Tight clothes can cause nerve damage. Skinny jeans and ill fitting shoes are just a couple of the things you can wear that cause issues over time.
